Slate Valley Series,

2023, 93 x 44 in, Ecoprint on unbleached linen with foraged plant matter and natural mordants

These eco-printed cloths were dyed in situ in an Upstate, NY forest using ethically foraged plant matter. The resulting prints are photographic and painterly representations of the plants used to make them. These foraged bundle dyed cloths embody the feeling of a forest, they contain imprints of forest flora and retain the scents of the plants. These cloths are a portable tool for envisioning a forest in urban centers where access to such environments is limited due to the industrial development of wild places. I hope to use these works as a vehicle for supporting collective imagining of what bringing trees into the city might feel like, and how trees, gardens, and forests support the wellbeing of all living things.
